Happy Birthday to the Rare Book Sale Monitor

Rare Book Sale Monitor One year ago we launched a very ambitious project that involved a very special team of database engineers and bibliophiles. We called the project Rare Book Sale Monitor. Today we are proud to report that the success of the RBSM has exceeded our initial expectations thanks to your overwhelming interest and support.  Not a single day goes by without receiving some positive feedback from book lovers and collectors alike that have joined the RBSM fans.

We track monthly sales from a variety of sources and compare the highest sale price items to historic quarterly pricing to determine if there is a significant shift upward. The results are further analyzed to determine the book categories being impacted. Our current book category breakdown includes:

Art/Photography/Architecture
Business and Economics
Children’s and young adults
Education/Reference
Exploration
Military, World History and Government
Modern first editions
Nature
Poetry and Literary criticism
Religion & Theology
Romance
Science
Science fiction/Fantasy

Separately, we track activity by author to determine if there is a significant increased interest in books published for a particular author. These include the most sought after rare publications and are filtered to exclude special attributes such as signed/inscribed by author copies from our analysis. Our current author breakdown includes:

Alexandre Dumas
Charles Dickens
Emile Zola
Honore de Balzac
J.D. Salinger
J.K. Rowling
J.R. Tolkien
James Joyce
Jonathan Swift
Leo Tolstoy
Nelle Harper Lee
Scott Fitzgerald
T.S. Eliot
Tennessee Williams
Victor Hugo
William Faulkner

We will continue to collect, analyze and post results on a quarterly basis as new market trends are recorded and identified. In the meantime please stay tuned. This ride is slow but steady!
